Using this Guide

Language Studies at TU Dublin offer modules in Chinese, English for International Students and English Literature & Criticism, French, German, Irish, Italian, Korean and Spanish.

The Language Studies lecturers at TU Dublin are involved in research and applied practice across a broad range of specialist areas - which are highlighted on the Staff Publications tab.

Here you will find a diverse selection of scholarly work from Language Studies lecturers doing active research within the areas of Language Acquisition and Pedagogy, Curriculum Development, Linguistics, Translation, Literary Studies, Film Studies, and English for Academic Purposes.

 

On each language page you will find:

  • a selection of books, eBooks, and dictionaries to get you started
  • key databases and journals for Humanities and Language research
  • how to find print and online resources, and where to get help with searching
  • further student supports available to you

 

Language Studies resources are held in all five TU Dublin Library locations. Remember, with your TU Dublin student card you are entitled to use and borrow from any of our libraries, not only your home library!

The Online Library is available 24/7 with your University email login details, where you can search and access resources from over 20,000 academic and industry journals and hundreds of eBooks over our 100+ subscription databases.

Library Support

Library staff are here to support your learning at TU Dublin - reach out for all assistance with finding resources and information for your language learning, research or teaching activities. Among other things, Librarians are available to help with:

  • Finding quality information for your assignments and projects
  • How to effectively search our range of print and online resources
  • Showing you the range and depth of our resources
  • Advise on how to correctly reference and cite your information sources

Students and staff please contact your home library at any time to get in touch with the Library Teaching & Learning team and arrange a one-to-one or group session to support your particular teaching or learning activities.

Finding Books, Journals, Articles and Databases

Books and Journals

Search Catalogue will help you find material that is on the library's shelves such as print books and print journals. It will also show online journals and eBooks (look for this symbol )

This is where you have access to your library account to place books on hold and renew books on loan.

Journal articles

Search All allows you to find online journal articles. Remember to click the box for 'Full Text Online' under 'Refine your Search' to only see content which the library has full access to.

Databases

You can Search Databases to see a list of all the databases the library subscribes to.

Referencing, Citation and Avoiding Plagiarism

Language Studies at TU Dublin is part of the Faculty of Arts & Humanities. This Faculty uses primarily the Harvard or Chicago referencing styles.

However remember that in your others modules you may be required to use different referencing styles (eg. APA style for modules within the School of Business, OSCOLA for the School of Law)
