Library Essentials: Dissertations

Searching for dissertations and theses

Dissertations and Theses:

Some printed dissertations and theses are kept in the library.

Many dissertations and theses will be available in electronic (PDF) format.

We use the word "dissertation" for work done as part of an undergraduate or taught master's course and we use "thesis" for work done for PhD or research master's degrees.

Dissertations and theses completed before 2019 were submitted to DIT, which preceded TU Dublin, and these are listed as Dublin Institute of Technology works.

Dissertations: How to do a Subject search:

Browse dissertations for a particular programme in the Library Catalogue by selecting the Subject search option from the drop-down menu.

Then enter your programme code e.g. DT228 or your programme title e.g. BSc Computer Science to obtain a list of the dissertations for that course.

A dissertation may be available in print or in electronic format.

Dissertations: How to do a Title search:

From the drop-down search menu choose Title, then input your course code e.g. DT203 or DT299. Select the eDissertations option to view a PDF. Click on the blue title link and view or download the PDF as required.

Note: To access the PDF you will need to enter your regular Microsoft 365 login.

Tip: Sort by Reverse Year to view the newer titles first.

Theses:

To get a list of theses, go to the Library Catalogue, select Subject from the drop down menu and enter "phd".

To see a list of print theses and eTheses via the Library Catalogue select the Subject search option and enter "PhD theses" or "MPhil theses".

Arrow:

The Arrow repository https://arrow.tudublin.ie/ holds Theses in electronic format.

Arrow@TUDublin is the institutional repository for the university and is where TUDublin researchers make a version of their published articles, conference papers and MPhil and PhD theses freely available. Most of the material on Arrow is full text.

If you are having any difficulties or need any help locating dissertations or theses please contact your library.
