(Women's Graphic Collective, 1978)
"This visual design has been created by the UFW labour union (as UFW stands for United Farm Workers). This poster is divided into four parts. At the top we see a rising sun with the United Farmer Worker logo and their slogan on the edge of the sun. In the middle we see the fields where Mexican and Filipino migrant's work. We can see that they are subjected to harsh working conditions, their backs are broken in two, some of them are holding their backs as if they are tired from the strain. At the bottom, we can see several figures representing the community of workers and their families. This community is fully represented, from the new-born to the elderly. Finally, at the very bottom we can read the message of the poster which urges the viewer to boycott lettuces and grapes...This is a touching image which can be used as a moral to teach students about the hidden part of our everyday products’ production."
As part of our work with our fantastic 3rd year Business students, we asked them to recommend resources for their course that would highlight and inform other students on issues of diversity and inclusion.
We were so impressed with the range of resources, view and insights that we received.
Here is a selection of what our students suggested.
