"We feel this article would be a useful source for students studying this module next year as it provided an insight into the life of a migrant worker and how family separation affects them. The article can be used to teach students about the issues migrant workers can face such as poverty, exploitation, oppression, mental and physical health issues, risk, addiction, and the threat of immigration are all common experiences for them, and they are often isolated from their families. We as a team think this is a useful article as many of us don’t realise why people are forced to migrate in the first place and most decide to migrate to financially support their families. We are relatively shielded to these issues unless we know someone who has a migrant worker status, so we feel this is a topic that needs to be addressed to tackle the stigma around the topic."

"This link can used to educate the next generation of thinkers, creatives, and activists to urge and drive true change that our little world so desperately needs. The core educational message that the link aims to achieve is to let the next generation know that racism or discrimination of any kind has no place in society. Equality and equity for all should not a be a controversial issue, it is a human right. Also, it aims to drive the point that ignorance is a choice."

"This is a massive flaw in the lines of integration between these two countries and in Europe as there is a massive amount of brain waste occurring here. Poland is losing its educated citizens due to them seeking a better life in the UK, but these same citizens are falling into a cog of labour jobs out of desperation when they arrive. We as a group all found this chapter to be incredibly interesting and hopeful that in the future this will no longer have to be an issue as there should be a more level playing field of equality throughout the countries in Europe. We began to discuss and wonder what kind of affect the recent decision for the UK to leave the EU would have on these Polish workers looking to live in the UK and since this book is from 2013 it would not have covered it."

"We learned the effects of the experiences of minority ethnic groups and how that affected them mentally. It’s upsetting that black, Chinese, Indians and minority groups feel like they should accept racism but it’s hard when you live in a country where they think racism doesn’t exist. Racism is very dangerous and it’s something that is taught not born with. This chapter is interesting because we learn about the history of racism in Northern Ireland and we can use this information to compare it in today’s society. The learning purpose is not only to compare the level of racism then and now but to also question your own thoughts and actions. This chapter makes you question whether or not you can relate to the topic or you know someone who you can relate it to and think about how it has affected you views on the topic."

"In this book, three main issues are discussed: 1. The catastrophic social situation of the African American working classes, due to racism and the American policies and institutions that disadvantage people of colour; 2. Police violence, which leads to insecurity and injustice for these populations; 3. The African-American working classes are victims of the transformation and evolution of racist ideology, especially because of the stereotypes of "immigrants who take advantage of the system", "blacks who sell drugs, belong to gangs, steal, are violent, etc...K.-Y. Taylor points to the severe class divide that demonstrates the emergence of the Black Lives Matter movement and that proves that the African American community is slowly dying out. At the end of her book, the author proposes a solution to combat these inequalities: a union of the working classes to end the neoliberal capitalist system (Martin-Breteau, 2017). This solution would tend to lead the world towards an anti-racist and anti-capitalist movement from the moment when everyone would accept the diversity of others and be tolerant (Martin-Breteau, 2017). In the end, the American dream, idealised for decades, is not so ideal. This ideology anchored in the minds of (mostly) white people proves once again that class solidarity is paramount to achieve greater social and racial justice."

"A poignant and impactful film that deserves to be heard and seen by the new generation in order to make mentalities evolve, especially nowadays when this fight of feminism is far from being won. But will watching “The Feminists: What Were They Thinking?” finally help us move towards a more just and egalitarian society?
The comparison between the growth of unity between women of all races and then the growth of women’s rights and feminism is huge. I think Unity amongst all women is so much stronger than what it was 30-40 years ago but still is not there yet, I think it needs to be taught to kids from an early age that everyone deserves the same amount of respect regardless of gender, ethnicity, or nationality. We are all one race and that needs to be taught a lot better starting from at home. I think when learning about women’s rights you really need to try understanding the strength that women of colour showed to protest with many white women who did not accept others as their equals as colour never mind their equals as gender. Strength in numbers is undeniable. Women have protested and marched all over the world and even in recent years have had to vote to legalise abortion across the world, in such modern times a women’s body choices should not be decided by men or others."

"The purpose of the talk is to explain why diversity and inclusion matters. Every person should first start looking for diversity within themselves. Then they can stop stereotyping and categorising other people. Having really enjoyed and learned from Hwang’s talk, I feel that this material could be very beneficial for students doing our course, as it brings a clear and honest message: ‘start within yourself first’. It touches on topics about how hard it is to be an immigrant, and what a person might go through when they feel foreign in their own country. It also shows the value of being able to use a blend of your own talents, experiences, and cultural understandings to build a world where people, and their identities, are no longer differentiated and separated by their look, or where they were born."

"This video portrays the exploitation of migrant workers in Japan. As a team, we felt this video stood out among the other sources that we found as it highlights how such a well-known designer brand, Comme des Garcons, exploits their migrant workers as interns. The video goes into detail about language barriers the Chinese migrants face in Japan, and this point resonated with the team because we have two Erasmus students who also face language barriers on a day-to-day basis. We feel that should this video be added to the course curriculum, it could be used to teach future Erasmus students that they are not alone when it comes to language barriers, and it can also be used to teach others how to not treat people with language barriers, but instead to treat them fairly and offer help when needed."

"The main person speaking in the video is named Todd James Fernando. Todd stated that the BLM in America is shining an important light on the injustices that people of colour are constantly being faced with. People of colour are vulnerable to racism and injustice. He continues by saying Australians have felt very similar. Many young Aborginal internal Islander people resonate very closely to the many lives of people of colour in America. He believes that the BLM movement in Australia resonates with people. There is multiple evidence showcasing injustice in Australia. Todd expressed that he feels that he may need to constantly be at a protest for the rest of his life as he feels there is a systematic refusal by the state and federal governments to step in and help Aborginal people. There is Aborginal people who are currently dying in custody. Out of the 432 aboriginal people that have died not one conviction has been made. That highlights and showcases the severity of why people are on the streets protesting. In regard to using this information to teach, one can analyse this information and use it to compare with the injustice in their home country. It is important for students to realize there are global issues that should be recognized in order to raise awareness."
