The Library as a client in enhancing student industry-oriented learning

This LibGuide show cases the result of a collaboration between TU Library Services and a Digital Marketing lecturer in mentoring students for a final year professional project

How the library approached the project

  • After the library was confirmed as a suitable client and 3 students were attached to it, it was time for the library to lay out the - what and how to approach to this project.

  • The library got back to the lecturer with a brief of the basic requirements from the Library Services.

  • The library offered a choice of 3 themes:

    • (1) The UN Sustainable Development Goals or SDG's, (2) A Selection of 4 UN International Awareness Days (3) A campaign to promote E-books/Databases/E-journals

  • Faculty Liaison Librarian for Business provided guided tutorials to students showing them how to identify, select and use Library resources appropriate for the chosen theme/s.

  • The library follows the Branding and Social Media guidelines for TU Dublin and these guidelines would have to be adhered to when creating social media posts

  • The branding guidelines were shared with the 3 students.

  • TU Dublin Library Services is now a unified service, made up of 3 Libraries, in Blanchardstown, City (Aungier Street, Bolton Street & Park House in Grangegorman) and Tallaght which at the time had maintained 3 separate Social Media platforms but, for the purposes of this project, students were asked to create campaigns that could easily fit into all 3 accounts.

  • As a client, the library undertook to be available to guide the students throughout the life span of the project.
