Postgraduate music research guide

Guide aimed at final year music and drama students. Recommendations on books for different stages of the research process.

Avoiding Plagiarism

It is important to know how to reference your sources when you are in the process of research.  Consult with your lecturers with regard to the particular reference style you are required to use for your assignments.  For music students the citation style is most likely  the Chicago manual of style.  Please see below some relevant sources on particular reference styles which are held in the library.

Referencing Style for Music and Drama

As students learning styles are diverse I have provided a link below to a mindmap which I have created for postgraduate students to facilitate them in their research.  If you click on the link to the right of the heading you will retrieve a number of subheadings with various tips on managing your references.  Also if you link to the mindmap above you will find a range of strategies to assist you in managing your research.

Furthermore, you may wish to use a bibliographic management tool to assist you in your research.  Mendeley is one example.
