Managing your References.
During your course your lecturer/s will give you assignments to complete A list of references to consult may accompany the set assignment. it is advisable to commence your search for these references via the library catalogue.
Please note however that when you incorporate the ideas of other people from different sources in your assignments it is necessary to cite those references. Please see TU Dublin video guide below re referencing and avoiding plagiarism.
1. It is advisable to use a bibliographic management software tool to manage your references. Microsoft word provides
a basic management system.
2. Tip: You could opt in to your reading history when you create a library pin number. So whenever a book is
checked out on your library account from then on you will have a record of books you have borrowed. This is particularly
important in the event that you need to provide citations as part of a written assignment you have to submit. You will
have the information to hand. If you decide at a later date that you wish to opt out of your reading history you can do so.
However, please note that if you do so you will no longer have access to a record of books you have borrowed from the
library.
3. Save and email references directly from databases.
4. Find out the agreed citation style you need to use for your assignments.
