A Practical Course in Advanced Structural Design is written from the perspective of a practicing engineer, one with over 35 years of experience, now working in the academic world, who wishes to pass on lessons learned over the course of a structural engineering career. The book covers essential topics that will enable beginning structural engineers to gain an advanced understanding prior to entering the workforce, as well as topics which may receive little or no attention in a typical undergraduate curriculum. For example, many new structural engineers are faced with issues regarding estimating collapse loadings during earthquakes and establishing fatigue requirements for cyclic loading - but are typically not taught the underlying methodologies for a full understanding.
Owing to regular revision, the Modern Construction Handbook has become a classic in advanced building construction literature, not least because of its clear structure covering the chapters "Material", "Wall", "Roof", "Structure", "Environment", and "Applications". For the fifth edition, a large part of the 3D presentations has been redrawn, all six chapters have been revised and updated. New standards have been established for this handbook, which is a basic resource for many architectural study courses, by adding more component details, new examples with a focus on sustainability and energy consumption, and a major update on finite element analysis (FEA) and computational fluid dynamics (CFD).
This monograph provides a comparative study between failure probabilities and collapse frequencies in structural bridge engineering. The author presents techniques to resolve and extend the limitations of both parameters, taking also into account the time dependency of both parameters. The book includes available data and case studies and thus presents patterns to identify potential weaknesses and challenges in bridge maintenance. The target audience primarily comprises practicing engineers in the field of bridge engineering, but the book may also be beneficial for academic researchers alike.
With easy-to-understand explanations of the basic concepts, Seismic Design of Foundations examines recent and worldwide research outputs and post-earthquake reconnaissance case studies and offers practical means of applying them to the real world. Each case study also provides worked examples of new and innovative findings that reveal background information behind the codes of practice in various parts of the world as well as the lessons learned from recent large-scale earthquakes - Publisher's description
