Journals and eJournals

So why use journals? Journals contain current academic or scholarly research which is not found in textbooks. Information is published in articles on a monthly basis and consists of reports on current research by qualified experts in the field.  Articles are usually peer-reviewed before being published to maintain a high research standard. The library provides access to a large collection of print and e-journals.

Access options:

  1. Access the TU Dublin Library catalogue and carry out a "journal title" search for your preferred title.
  2. Use the library's Journal Search Page which will allow you to search journal titles as well as browsing the journal collection by title or by subject area.
  3. Use the Search All discovery tool to search for full-text articles across all our journals and databases.
  • Use a Subject Database to access a range of journal articles from different journals.

Subject databases index scholarly journals in a range of subject areas and offer in-depth search options and analytics. A database like Science Direct may cover a range of different physics journals. Or a database may cover a specific area like the Optics Infobase or INIS database.

    • It's useful to think about a search strategy before using a database to make your search as efficient as possible: try the hints and tips in the Search strategies video
