At TU Dublin, we’re proud to have a unique connection to James Joyce. Among our special collections is Three Irish Melodies: for Violoncello or Violin and Pianoforte, arranged by Eileen and William Reidy. Eileen Reidy taught piano at the College of Music (later DIT) around 1915 and notably accompanied both John McCormack and James Joyce in concert in 1904—an event she famously left mid-performance. Joyce later fictionalized this moment in his short story ‘The Mother’ in The Dubliners..
The score is inscribed with a personal note from McCormack:
"I loved these. You played them splendidly. Your friend, John McCormack.12th Aug. 1925."
