The Black Woman; featuring a new essay by Angela Davis
Special issue of the leading print journal The Black Scholar, original print from December 1971.
The Black Scholar was founded in San Francisco in 1969 as the "first modern Black studies and research journal" by Robert Chrisman and Nathan Hare.
Angela Davis is a Marxist and feminist activist, academic, and author. In 1971 Davis had been recently hired and fired from her position as assistant professor of philosophy at the University of California, Los Angeles due to her membership of the Communist Party USA, and was standing trial as a self-described political prisoner.

When first published in 1955 this seminal work greatly influenced the generation of activists and academics involved in liberation struggles in Africa, Latin America, and the Caribbean. When published for the first time in English Aimé Césaire's text again inspired new generations engaged in the Civil Rights, Black Power, and anti-war movements and has sold more than 75,000 copies to date.
