Important Questions

For the critical reading exercise to be fruitful, you need to ask yourself these questions:

  • Do I agree or disagree with the author/s' claims?
  • What am I basing my agreement or disagreement on?
  • Is there an alternative argument or evidence being presented in what I am reading
  • How did the author gather the information or evidence that they used in what I am how reading?
  • Is there a research that was done, if so what were the results?
  • How does what I am reading fit into my own assignment?

Keeping all these questions at the back of your mind will definitely assist in focusing your mind.
