Scholarly Profiling

Every year sees a huge increase in the number of publications and it is really important that the papers you write are attributed to you. So always use one form of your name and one form of affiliation which in our case is Technological University Dublin. If you have a common name you can use a middle initial.  Changing your name on marriage is not a great move as it may split your citations. However, you can use any version of your name if you use an identifier.  Orcid is becoming the standard identifier for researchers. Find out how to get an orcid here. However, it is not enough to just have an orcid number you need to upload your publications to it. Remember people can look for you on the orcid website so investing time in your profile is worth it.

The great thing about having an orcid number is that it moves with you if you change jobs and if you put the identifier on every publication it is more likely to accrue the correct citations to your name.  Check your profile in Web of Science and Scopus  (A-Z Databases) by searching under your name and examine your list of publications. Set up your profile in Google (instructions here) but make sure it is accurate by taking out duplications and again checking that everything listed there belongs to you.
