The Irish Museum of Modern Art (IMMA) is currently running an international summer school from the 20th of June to the 8th of July. The three-week programme will consist of seminars, lectures, discussions and workshops with a range of national and international artists, theorists and educators.
The programme seeks to explore the theme of self-determination as a political, social and cultural construct in the processes of nation-building, nationalism and decolonisation. Particular focus will be given to the role of the artist in challenging and developing the frameworks of self-determination and autonomy in our contemporary societies.
The summer school is part of a wider programme of activities to mark a century since the formation of the Irish Free State in 1922 and will culminate in major exhibition in 2023 supported by the Department of Tourism, Culture, Arts, Gaeltacht, Sport and Media under the Decade of Centenaries Programme 2012-2023.
This interdisciplinary programme will be of particular interest to artists, students and graduates and anyone with an interest in the subject of self-determination. The collection as TU Dublin Library offers many titles relevant to the programme and you can find a selection here.
Although the call for application is now closed, many of the events are open to public engagement and free.
