Referencing

The acknowledgement of another person's work or ideas in your own finished work

Citing

Citing in your work will be necessary when you quote or mention the book/article/website/whatever in the text. In these cases what you will need to do is put the authors name and year of publication in brackets at the end of the relevant sentence

"After that I lived like a young rajah in all the capitals of Europe…" (Fitzgerald, 2004).

And after that it will appear in the Bibliography at the end of the essay with the full details so…..

Fitzgerald, F. (2004). The great Gatsby. New York: Scribner.

 

The good news about referencing and citation is the more you do it the better you get at it

and

the better the mark you'll get.

And remember it's the lecturer's job to provide you with all the information about the referencing style they expect you to use
